National Chess Championship of the Deaf at Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, April 07 The 4th National Chess Championship for the Deaf will begin tomorrow at Samiti Kendra, Civil Lines. It is for the first time that such an event is being organized in Punjab. Addressing mediapersons today, the organisers said that the Association of the Deaf, Punjab, which is affiliated to All India Federation of Deaf, New Delhi, has taken the initiative for it.

The organisers added that 112 players from 12 states will participate in the event. These include 32 women players. The championship will be held in seven rounds on Swiss League basis.

Along with three best male and three best female participants, three best teams will be awarded too. Winners will be given cash prizes along with trophies. After the conclusion of the event, the entire team will go for one day excursion to Amritsar. They will be taken to the Golden Templem, and to some tourist spots.

The championship will be inaugurated by Chief Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda tomorrow at 9.30 am. state BJP president Prof Rajinder Bhandari will be also present on this occasion. The tournament will conclude on April 10. Jaago, an NGO, is making arrangements for holding this championship.
