‘Swayamvara’
for the hearing impaired

COIMBATORE: Family Care Coimbatore, a voluntary organisation,
will conduct a ‘Swayamvara’ for hearing impaired people on
September 16 at Sri Priya Kunj Hall at R.S.Puram.
It will be a meeting point for eligible people with hearing
impairment to find their life partner, said Renuka Rameshan,
coordinator and project director.
“Those who wish to attend the marriage meet must be over 21
years of age and ready for marriage. They should be accompanied
by parents or guardians. They would have to bring along two
passport-size photographs too,” she added.
The ‘swayamvara’ would act as a platform for parents of
people with hearing impairment to meet one another and find out
future prospects for their children. Registration was free.
Family Care provided training programmes in computer
technology and conducted regular AIDS awareness programmes for
them.
It distributed educational and motivational material for the
young and the aged.
The organisation planned to set up a service centre for the
hearing impaired in the city and start training courses for
women with hearing impairment.
Seminars
Seminars for parents of deaf children and teachers were on
the anvil. It was working on sponsorship of rent for the deaf
centre and salaries for the deaf teachers.
