Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment had initiated the process of amending the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 through National consultation with stakeholders in 2006 and two meetings at Patna and Chennai were held on 26^{th June, 2006 and 18th July, 2006 respectively. Keeping in view the demands that the amendment to the Act may be considered after India signed the UN Convention on Rights for Persons with Disabilities, the process was kept in abeyance. This was resumed, after signing of the Convention. The third meeting was held in Delhi on 14th August, 2007 and now the Fourth and final meeting will be held at Goa on 19th November, 2007.}
