As the number of cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant crossed the 100-mark in India, ICMR chief Dr Balram Bhargava said, "This is the time to avoid non-essential travel and mass gatherings." He added, "It is very important to observe low-intensity festivities." The variant, first discovered in South Africa, has been reported in 11 Indian states and Union Territories.
Pharmaceutical firm Pfizer on Friday said that COVID-19 will transition to an endemic state around the globe by 2024. Pfizer's Chief Scientific Officer Mikael Dolsten also announced plans to develop a three-dose vaccine regimen for children aged 2 to 16. Dolsten said that results of three doses among people older than 16 showed that approach offered greater protection.
