Afghan forces kill over 1,300 Taliban terrorists, injure 832 in last 9 days

Afghanistan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) have killed 1,327 Taliban terrorists and injured 832 others in the operations between July 24 and August 1. As many as 254 Taliban terrorists were killed and 97 wounded during the last 24 hours. Further, Afghan National Army discovered and defused 13 IEDs which were placed by Taliban on public roads on Sunday.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Monday said that the country's deteriorating security situation is due to a sudden decision by the US to withdraw its troops. The Taliban has recently gained control of several districts across the country and launched attacks on three provincial capitals. The Taliban wouldn't move towards peace unless the worsening security situation was curbed, Ghani added.

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani said on Sunday while addressing a virtual cabinet meeting that the country's situation will change in the next six months. He added that the Taliban had become "more cruel and more oppressive" in the last two decades. "We want peace but [Taliban wants] surrender...They'll not engage in meaningful negotiations unless the situation changes," he further said.
