Sensex surges to 54,577, Nifty hits 16,289 as markets open at record highs

Indian benchmark indices opened at fresh record highs on Thursday after closing at a record high on the previous day. The Sensex jumped over 80 points to open at 54,577, while the broader Nifty 50 index also rose around 30 points to trade at 16,289. Sensex had surged past the 54,000-mark for the first time on Wednesday.
