The National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF) of France has appointed a judge to investigate corruption suspicions in the €7.8 billion deal with India for the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets, French media reports said. The probe came after French NGO Sherpa filed a complaint with PNF and requested a probe into the 2016 deal.
After French media reported that a judge will investigate the purchase of 36 Rafale jets by India, Congress on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order a probe by a Joint Parliamentary Committee. "Corruption in the Rafale deal has come out clearly...The JPC is the only way forward," said Randeep Singh Surjewala, adding that this issue concerns India's security.
