Sensex scales to record closing high of 55,437, Nifty ends at 16,529 for 1st time

Indian benchmark indices gained for the second consecutive week to close at record highs on Friday after retail inflation eased in July. The Sensex surged past 55,000 for the first time and ended over 590 points higher at 55,437, while the Nifty 50 jumped over 160 points to close at 16,529. TCS, L&T and Bharti Airtel were among top gainers.
