2579 - India defeated Pakistan in 13 days in 1971 war with surrender of 93,000 soldiers
India celebrates December 16 as Vijay Diwas to commemorate victory over Pakistan in 1971 war which led to Bangladesh's birth. In 1971, Pakistan launched operation to crush East Pakistan liberation movement, killing up to 3 million civilians. India entered war after Pakistan attacked its air bases and the war ended in 13 days with the surrender of 93,000 Pakistani soldiers.
