As many as 2,002 people died due to cyclonic storms, heavy rains, floods and landslides during 2021-22, the Jal Shakti Ministry informed the Parliament on Monday. Maharashtra reported the highest number of deaths at 489. This was followed by Himachal Pradesh at 298 and Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh at 162 each.
