3071 - 3,00,000 people currently in COVID-19 isolation or quarantine in Hong Kong

About 3,00,000 people in Hong Kong are in COVID-19 isolation or under home quarantine, Hong Kong's Chief Executive Carrie Lam said. Lam said the estimate for quarantined people could be overstated as the isolation period for fully vaccinated individuals was reduced to one week from two last month. Hong Kong officials confirmed over 32,000 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

China has reported 5,280 COVID-19 cases for the first time since the early days of the pandemic, driven by 'stealth Omicron' variant, reports said. The 'stealth Omicron' - or the BA.2 sub-variant, is 1.5 times more transmissible than the original Omicron strain, studies suggest. At least 10 cities and counties were locked down including Shenzhen, home to 17 million people.
